Creative services for the design-challenged developer
There’s not much to show on the process of this redesign, as there wasn’t really a process at all. Carleton came to me a very detailed document that included wireframes and everything I needed to know to do a mockup for their upcoming redesign… which made the project soooo much easier.

Looking really great, it’s so much cleaner and less cluttered.
I also love the soft shaded buttons too, it’s a nice touch.

Beautiful work as always, the redesign is much more organize and the grid/hierarchy of elements is perfect. nice and easy on the eyes.

Again – nice stuff as usual. I’d be interested to see how they move along with this redesign considering the zoomerang “design” survey on their current home page. Er.. I assume they did the other competing designs in house :-)

Thanks for the kind words guys…
You’re right Kel, they did do other in house designs (very nice ones from what I’ve seen), and they also had other designers submit mockups as well. The one that I’ve submitted is just one of many, and was mainly to give them some ideas.

I’m always taken back by how well you can organize a disparate array of content blocks and convert it into something so beautiful. Major kudos sir. It really makes me yearn for more collaboration with other designers such as yourself.
You mentioned that you submitted this in competition with other designs from other designers. I’m curious if that was part of the bidding process or if you were compensated for it. I’m not sure that I would take on work where they wanted me to “throw out some ideas” without being paid.
Sorry for the knee-jerk reaction. I’ve just seen some designers be taken advantage of. I doubt that is the case here though.

Hey Michael… No worries, I was fairly compensated for the work I did on this project. One of the big selling points of this contract was that they just wanted ideas, and weren’t going to ask me for further revisions after I submitted my original comps. I love jobs like that.

Sounds fantastic. Don’t think I’ve ever ran into a client quite so well versed in the process.

The redesign totally blew me away. Neater, cleaner and sleeker. :)
Just curious. Tried showing it to a new and old student to investigate any usability issues of the new interface later?
